With any manufacturing process, there’s going to be waste. However, that doesn’t mean it has to be thrown into a landfill. 

igus® reuses 99 percent of its plastic waste by processing it into granulated material and recycling it back into the injection molding production process.

We also offer a recycling program for old plastic cable carriers called chainge. Customers send us their carriers so we can separate the material and ship it to our recycling partner in Massachusetts. In return, we give those customers a voucher to use on future igus® purchases. 

In addition to these sustainability initiatives, igus® products are designed to reduce lubricant pollution thanks to their self-lubricating, maintenance-free characteristics. They also weigh less than metal, which helps reduce the amount of energy required to move applications. Plus, our tribologically-optimized polymer materials are low-friction, reducing abrasion and microplastic pollution.

Our entire dry-running component product range is designed using iglide® plastic materials. These engineered polymer blends consist of base plastics for wear resistance, reinforcing fibers for high forces, and solid lubricants that eliminate the need for external grease. This material makeup enables us to create self-lubricating, maintenance-free, low-friction parts that are resistant to dirt, dust, chemicals and corrosion. 

Our e-chain® cable carriers and chainflex® flexible cables are guaranteed to last up to 36 months. We offer carriers in various sizes for long, gliding, and unsupported travels and nearly 1,400 cable types with different technical and cost-saving advantages.

All igus® products are rigorously tested each year inside our 41,000ft² lab at our headquarters in Cologne, Germany. We do this to guarantee quality and give our customers the ability to easily estimate service life online.
