Abrupt Pull Test

March 7, 2018
Description: Apply abrupt pull force to strain relief of M12 connector and cable to determine if system is capable of withstanding forces as may be experienced on 5 axis robot end-of-arm-tool without damage. This test is similar in approach to UL 817 Section 99 test method for cord sets and power-supply cords employing molded-on or assembled-on fittings i.e. electrical connectors. Conclusion: No perceptible signs of mechanical damage to connector, cable, conductors or connections were observed upon completion of this test. The forces applied during this test are assumed to far exceed the mechanical forces this connector/cable system would experience while installed on a 5-axis robot during normal operation. Therefore, the conclusion is that the use of assembled-on, also known as field-attach connectors, are suitable for use at end-of-arm-tooling of 5-axis robots.
