Cable reels replaced with new energy chain lighting truss solution at Kauffman Center

The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts is the leading opera and performing arts venue in Kansas City, MO. Since its opening in 2011, it has hosted over 2.5 million guests. To power the overhead speaker and lighting trusses, cable reels were originally used. When the cable reels began causing maintenance and reliability issues, the Kauffman Center’s stage management team turned to igus® for a new, creative solution. During planned downtime, igus® engineers designed and installed four custom-made, maintenance-free zig zag energy chain systems to replace the previously-used cable reels.

After the replacement, the stage truss lighting was made more simple, efficient, and visually appealing. The custom solution ensures the truss lighting system will work perfectly within the existing constraints of the theater, optimizing performance and maximizing service life.

This new truss lighting power solution eliminates the need for frequent maintenance, allowing personnel to focus on the much more important task of providing the best possible experience for the audience.
