Remotion Application Solution with drylin® Linear Actuators

Robots performing environmentally conscious tasks shouldn’t have a negative impact on the environment — yet this was almost the case with an underwater robot from Remotion designed to treat ship hulls. Greased ball bearing systems were originally considered for this application, but the grease would have leached into the surrounding environment, causing pollution and damage. Remotion came to igus® to find a more environmentally friendly solution, and ultimately decided upon drylin® linear bearings, which do not require any external grease or lubrication. The drylin bearings offered corrosion-resistance, reduced maintenance costs, and zero environmental pollution.

Aufratech Application Solution with drylin® R Linear Bearings

Exoskeleton manufacturer Aufratech approached igus® looking for a solution to replace recirculating ball bearing systems in a recent design. These bearings would frequently leak grease onto patients using the exoskeletons, or directly into the environment. igus® was able to provide drylin® R linear slides to replace the original bearings, eliminating grease from the system while also reducing bearing weight by 70%. Heineken Application Solution with igubal® spherical bearings

In an effort to eliminate costly lubrication-related maintenance from its bottling lines, Heineken Brasil approached igus® looking for a grease-free insert bearing solution to replace the metal bearings used previously. igus® provided dry-running JEM insert bearings, which offered 1:1 replacement of the original bearings. The change saved Heineken Brasil 1,560 hours of maintenance a year. If the change is made at all Heineken locations, 20 tons of lubricant can be eliminated from its bottling lines.
