As part of a new remotely operated felling wedge design, German company Forstreich reached out to igus® for a linear system to drive the wedge. igus® was able to supply a completely grease-free drylin linear system, offering high media & corrosion resistance, shock absorption and vibration damping, and a 70% weight reduction compared to competing ball bearing systems. Hartmann Application Solution with drylin® linear bearings

In an effort to minimize the frequent and costly maintenance needed for its production equipment, medical goods producer Hartmann came to igus® looking for a replacement for metallic linear bearings. Remotion Application Solution with drylin® Linear Actuators

Robots performing environmentally conscious tasks shouldn’t have a negative impact on the environment — yet this was almost the case with an underwater robot from Remotion designed to treat ship hulls. Greased ball bearing systems were originally considered for this application, but the grease would have leached into the surrounding environment, causing pollution and damage. Remotion came to igus® to find a more environmentally friendly solution, and ultimately decided upon drylin® linear bearings, which do not require any external grease or lubrication. The drylin bearings offered corrosion-resistance, reduced maintenance costs, and zero environmental pollution.
